The Wat Arun Preservation Project was founded in 2000 from the inspiration of those who admired this historical site. They are Wat Arunrachawararam Royal Grand Temple, the Department of Fine Arts and C.M. Organizer Co.,Ltd. The aim of the project is to promote and uphold the prestige of Wat Arunrachawararam Royal Grand Temple in accordance with its status as a World Heritage Site. Activities organized by the Wat Arun Preservation Project include the construction of temple facilities, the creation of www.watarun.org to spread news and publicize activities, the Wat Arun Festival 1782 A.D. to conserve and revive ancient Thai performing arts, and “We Love Wat Arun Activities” which is a daytime event to cultivate an appreciation for this historical temple.
Activities in 2000
– Constructed 7 water-closets for monks at Wat Arun
– Created and Operated 2 websites; www.watarun.org and www.watarunfestival.com to spread news and publicize activities – Firstly created and organized “Wat Arun Festival 1782 A.D.” between November 9 – 15, 2000. The event set out under the concept “When the History comes Alive” bringing back the ancient performing arts that are hard to find or not longer performed.
Activities in 2001
– Requested an approval to construct historical informative signage and direction signage at Wat Arun. – Organized daytime event; “We Love Wat Arun Activities” between October 20 – 23, 2000 which are Photo Shooting, Water-Color Painting, Thai Dessert Class and Wat Arun Tour. – Organized “Wat Arun Festival 1782 A.D.” for the second year between November 1 – 4, 2001 with the theme “The Greatest Arts of the Ancient Siam”. Performances include Thai and Chinese art forms that reflect a sense of being Thai, while at the same time illustrating the cultures of the Chinese, which in turn represent the diversity of peoples who have come to seek freedom and prosperity in Thailand.
